Keeping Time

In The Middle Kingdoms time is tracked by the ancient lunar calendar of the elves. Their year is broken into 12 cycles in a year of 354 or 355 days. Each cycle has 4 sub-cycles of 7 days. The calendar is purely lunar, and so does not sync up with the seasons. The Imperial Calendar is now in it’s 1343rd year.

In Khitai the calendar is based on the houses of the Zodiac and the number 12. There are 12 basic Zodiac figures, representing years; Rat, Aurochs, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Cockatrice, Dog, Pig. Each year is divided into 12 elements representing months; Stone, Air, Fire, Ice, Steel, Spirit, Earth, Water, Wood, Mithril, Life, Wind. Each month is divided into 24 colors, representing days; White, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Black, Orange, Purple, Cyan, Brown, Grey, Turquoise. Each day is divided into 24 segments, represented by numbers. Each of these segments is divided into 60 minutes, and each minute is 60 seconds.
The Zodiac Calendar is now in it’s 4127th year.

Example Date: The 13th hour of 7th Blue Day of the 4127th Mithril Rabbit
